Kalavasos is set to welcome visitors to the 2nd Pancyprian Silk Festival on Friday, 1 May 2026, from 10:00 to 17:00, transforming the village into a vibrant cultural destination dedicated to the history, art, and tradition of silk.
Under the central theme “The Journey of Silk: From China to Cyprus”, the festival highlights the deep cultural connection between the two countries, celebrating centuries of shared heritage through craftsmanship, storytelling, and artistic expression.
Organised by “To Kamateron”, the festival is part of an ongoing effort to revive sericulture and restore the art of silk embroidery—a beautiful yet increasingly rare tradition that remains an important part of Cyprus’ cultural identity.
With the participation of the Chinese community and the support of the Confucius Institute at the University of Cyprus and the Kalavasos Community Council, the festival offers a unique experience for all ages, combining education, creativity, and cultural exchange.
The event will be honoured by the presence of the Deputy Minister of Culture, Dr. Vasiliki Kassianidou, and the Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of China in Cyprus, Mr. Zhou Yunliang, reinforcing the importance of this cultural bridge between nations.
